10:08 am on 2014-01-23
Central to thinking is self worth. How do you value yourself? Interested in staying ahead of the IT career curve? Will this new juncture be a turning point? Changing environments or entering a new year wouldn't make any difference in terms of career growth if you have no idea or a low opinion of your worth. Who are you? How do you define yourself? Never allow others define who you are. Support, advice and encouragement from others can be helpful but you must own your thoughts and actions.
If you are to make
significant change in the new season you simply must know who you are. What you
think you are worth has nothing to do with your present skill level, position
or even your possessions or benefits. Too often many of us undervalue ourselves
especially when times are tough for us. Self worth is critical if your thinking
must have the depth to recognize and bring out your potentials - to give birth
to the greatness that often lies dormant within.
It's a new start
but where are your dreams or vision without knowing who you are? Without appreciating
who you are it's difficult to start, it's impossible to dream. “The future
belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” -
Eleanor Roosevelt. I restate that it has nothing to do with what you possess or
the money in your pocket. Your idea of creating an IT driven service to solve
health issues in the rural areas, your drive get to the top of Cisco and
internetworking globally with CCIE, the programs you've started writing to
develop the outstanding web interface that will turn e-business on its head, or
the initiative to automate government records and service, comes from undiluted
self worth.
You certainly need to discard the misplaced notion that equates
self worth with net worth. Property, assets without inner strengths? So we
think we can buy self worth? Give me a break! We should stop getting carried
away with advertising
that exploits our need for status and self worth. In this new beginning, we can't afford to chase
and worship possessions at the expense of real worth. In addition, we often allow negativity and the challenges that come with the
territory to diminish us and our ideas. We know there will be periods of
doubt and stress, but you must believe in yourself and be committed to pushing
forward. There is no room for the negatives.
HAVE YOUR SAY: What are does self worth in career development mean to you? Please share your comments, thoughts and opinions.
