TEXT OF THE KEY NOTE ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE PRINCIPAL OF THE LAGOS STATE SENIOR MODEL COLLEGE, BADORE, ALHAJI B.A. GBADAMOSI, ON THE OCCASION OF THE IT (Information Technology) AWARENESS DAY ON SATURDAY, 2ND JULY, 2005

Mr. Chairman, distinguished Guest Speaker, honorable Guests, my lovely children, ladies and gentlemen.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the great demonstration for IT AWARENESS not only in Lagos Senior Model College Badore, but in Lagos State as a whole.

Today symbolizes a day that we have only been waiting for, having been in the pilot cabin for more than a decade struggling and thinking on how this noble institution will be at the forefront in computer literacy in Lagos State. All through my journey outside the country, I have always visited one school or the other and discovered that ever at elementary school level, each pupil has an access to computer system whereas in Nigeria, computer is seen as an asset for the privileged rich.  This experience accelerated my quest for making this institution a school to be emulated by others.  I thank Almighty God for the type of dynamic and civilized Parent Teachers' Association (PTA) under the noble and visionary Chairman, Alhaji M.O Amzat that I have.  They are so marvelous that any reasonable and eventful idea is always supported.

To set the boll rolling, I made available four systems in the improvised computer laboratory and a mandatory training course for the teachers by Excelous Computers, which was successfully done.  This made me hold a meeting with the P.T.A. Executive and the programme was approved for the benefit of the students too in 1998 The P.T.A. made fund available and some complete systems were ordered for Dubai including colour printers with which the students started their training. Though the laboratory was burgled and those systems carted away, we were never discouraged instead our determination was strengthened and we forged ahead.

Our final destination before this time was to have an Internet laboratory where our students could have access to the external world since the world is becoming a global village. With personal effort and the cooperation from the teachers, a permanent computer hall has just been built with the capacity of not less than 100 students at a time.  We are only awaiting the furnishings.  With all sense of humility and sense of humanity, the school can boast of not less than 70 computer systems.  To God be the glory.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I at this juncture bring to your notice that what we have over the years longed for, that is the internet laboratory had just walked down to us on a platter of gold.  M.T.N. through a SchoolNet Nigeria, a Non Government Organization (NGO) whose aim is to introduce Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the Nigeria Educational system with the recommendation of the Honourable commissioner for Education (Professor Kunle Lawal) of Lagos State Ministry of Education donated an M.T.N SchoolConnect laboratory to our school.  Do I hear you say a dream come true.

My profound gratitude goes to all of you who had found our invitation honorable especially the Guest Speaker, Mr. Jide Awe and the other members of the high table.  May our vision for Nigeria youths through education be realized.

To the coordinator, Mr. T.A Alabede, this is an initiative that must be commended.  I say more power to your elbow and keep the good work up.

To the students, my commendation  to your initiative and effort so far.  Let the junior ones among you emulate your perseverance and keep the good work on.

May we continue to shine. May we never rest until our good becomes better and better becomes best.

Thank you all and god bless.
