THE COMPUTER CLUB's IT (Information Technology) AWARENESS DAY


The Computer Club, Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore provides a purposeful forum for educating students on the imperative of IT (Information Technology) to personal, organizational, national and global development in the contemporary age. In the recent past, the Club has organized worthwhile activities for the benefit of its members. As a result, the club was voted the Best Academic Club in the School for 2004.

In an attempt to sustain its gains and further extend the campaign for youth engagement in IT for Development to other students the Club organized an IT (Information Technology AWARENESS DAY on Saturday, 2nd July, 2005.

The Youth empowerment programme, involved students and guest from within and outside the school. It featured among others, a Special Lecture on the topic: Securing Nigeria's Future through IT: the Role of Youths. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Jide Awe, CEO and Founder of Jidaw.com (http://www.jidaw.com).

He spoke on the need for youth to empower themselves with IT skills and knowledge and also to become more creative and innovative since they are the agents of progress and change.

The keynote address was delivered by the Principal of the Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore, Alhaji B.A. Gbadamosi. He spoke on his efforts to encourage an IT culture in the students of the school which is beginning to bear fruit. Mr T. A. Alabede, the Club Coordinator provided information on the history, progress and objectives of the Computer Club. Their mission is to ensure the products of the school and the Club make a positive impact in developing Information Technology in Nigeria. Click Here to Read the Club's objectives.

Several distinguished IT Personalities were also recognized for their critical roles in the unfolding IT revolution in Nigeria. Award of Excellences were therefore presented to the Principal of the Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore, Alhaji B.A. Gbadamosi, Mr. Ejide Oladunmoye, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Computer Society, Mrs. Florence Seriki, MD/CEO Omatek Computers and Mr. Chima Onyekwere, Founder and Chairman of Linkserve ISP and Mr. Jide Awe, CEO amd Founder of Jidaw.com for their immense contributions to the promotion and development of Information Technology in Nigeria. They were also all appointed as Patrons of the Computer Club.

The forum was filled to capacity with students from Lagos State Model College and neighbouring schools. According to Mr. T. A. Alabede, the presence and participation of IT personalities at the programme and "Mr. Awe's well delivered lecture were a great source of encouragement and inspiration to our members and other youths, some of whom are well set to becoming future global IT leaders".
